Quite simply, in an office above a flat on Blackboy Road in Exeter, in 1979! From a single branch, the company has evolved over a number of years, gradually expanding organically through providing an excellent service to its clients, combined with ensuring its drivers were looked after, too. This philosophy has been part of Backline's success and is the reason why, nearly 40 years on, we've increased our coverage to the entire South & South West regions of England, with ambitious growth plans for the next 5-10 years.

We have a great relationship with our drivers (some say we're more of a family business!). We offer all the variety and flexibility of an agency role with the guaranteed pay, free training, and benefits of a permanent one. There are two types of Driver CPC training: Initial CPC and Periodic Training. The type of training you need will depend on when you passed your test, and whether or not you have previously held a Driver Qualification Card. If you've not registered as a user on the government site previously, you'll need to do so. You can also ask your training provide to check your Driver CPC hours - but they'll only be able to tell you what they've uploaded for you.

Backline have been delivering Driver CPC training since 2013. We registered as a JAUPT approved consortium member to enable us to deliver training to the 300+ HGV drivers that we employ. Periodic training involves predominantly classroom based training, but can be incorporated into practical training such as our Fork Lift Truck, Lorry Mounted Crane, First Aid or ADR courses.
